Detection is very reliable after about 2–3 calibration swings. The app uses adaptive thresholds that adjust to your motion so normal arm movement is less likely to be mistaken for a swing once calibration has settled in.

The app is trained on 800+ different swings, from our local PGA pros to a junior golfers in order to work with as much variety of swings as possible.

However, if your swing is very unique, it may not pick it up properly. Here are some tips to improve the detection:

1. Wear your watch on your lead wrist, basically, the one you are wearing the glove on.

2. If your swing is too fast (fast back swing + fast downswing), or too slow (slow backswing and slow downswing), or you have a veeeery long pause on top of the swing - the app may ignore that. That is to avoid false detection when you sip from the bottle or waving at friend.

3. If you are a very begginer golfer and do half-swings or your arms are all over the place, this may be ignored as well.

4. Make sure you have the latest software update on your watch, for both, Garmin OS and the Driving Range app. Some older Garmin watches are being updated to use higher sample rate for sensors, which dramatically improve accuracy.

Unfortunately, Garmin doesn't provide developers access to this hardware, so there is no way for app to communicate with them. As soon as it will become available, the Driving Range app will support it.

It's not very easy, since Garmin doesn't provide a clear developer's access to the device. But I am currently working on a solution, that may work. If it will, the R10 support will either be brought to Driving Range app or will be available as a separate app. This is depends on computational power of the watches, so it may not be working properly running in the same app.

The app is not intended to replicate launch monitor. In fact, they are completely different devices: launch monitor "sees" the ball and the club, but your watch does not have this luxury. There is no magic in the world.

The app's goal is to help understand your swing motion, not your ball flight. But good news: improving your swing motion actually helps your ball flight A LOT!

Driving Range supports 100+ devices, including models in the Fenix, Forerunner, Venu, Epix, Enduro, and MARQ series, among others. Check the Connect IQ store listing for the full compatibility list for your region. Basically, if you can see Driving Range Pro in Connect IQ, you can install it.

Some metrics depend on specific hardware. For example, wrist release needs a gyroscope sampled at 50 Hz or higher, and arc consistency also relies on gyroscope data. If the watch cannot provide the required data, that line shows N/A. Most modern Garmin watches include a gyroscope.

Also, in case when the algorithm can't come up with a definitive conclusion, the app will display N/A just in case.

After you have completed a workout, sync your watch for activity to appear in Garmin Connect. Then, when you click on the activityt to see all data tracked, you can go to a Charts tab. Scroll down to see your shots and tempo data.

Garmin Connect may not be a perfect way to work with your data, so there is a separate companion app available for your phone. The app keeps all your sessions, provides coaching tips and real-time analysis. There are versions for iPhone and Android.

The app analyzes 14 metrics, checks them against professional coaching rules, and gives you tips and a set of drills to address your weak points. 30 days of Premium coaching are included with your Garmin app purchase and will be applied when you pair your watch to a companion app.

No. Putting produces very low angular velocity at the wrist, below what the detector can treat as a full swing. The app is designed for full and partial swings, not putting strokes.

No. Without impact shock detection at wrist sampling rates, the app responds to the swing motion whether or not you strike a ball. Treat air swings and ball strikes the same from the app's point of view.

Yes. Data stays on your watch and in Garmin Connect as part of your activity. There are no external servers, no separate accounts for the app, and no third-party data collection by Driving Range.

The app is localized for 36 languages, with golf-specific wording where it matters for tips and labels.

During the first 2–3 swings, detection still uses broad default settings. False positives usually decrease as the adaptive system calibrates to your typical motion. You can also adjust sensitivity in settings if your environment or habits trigger extra events.

Driving Range is available for purchase directly from the Garmin Connect IQ Store. All purchases are handled by Garmin.

If you have purchased Premium coaching via the iOS app, all payments are processed by Apple, and you can ask for a refund directly from Apple.

Regular version uses less precise algorithms and is intend to be used on older Garmin models. The regular version will be deprecated and will be removed from the store at September 2026.

It is better to use Pro version for modern devices, because they have better hardware, which allows to more precise swing detection and metrics tracking are only available in the Pro version.
